In The Beginning
I started MatheusDebull.com back on November 30th, 2010 to be a blogging site for my ramblings, current events going on in the world, gaming related news and reviews, as well as writing short stories. Basically, everything Matheus Debull! I absolutely love being creative and writing pretty much anything, so it was the perfect outlet for my work. That plan took a bit of a new direction on June 27th, 2011.
Enter MatheusDebulls Live Stream
On June 27th, 2011, I decided to dive into live streaming after a LOT of trial and error. Back when justin.tv was the place to live stream, it wasnt as easy as it is today. There was no Constant Bit Rate option, you had to use Variable Bit Rate in combination with a proper buffer, preset and VBR quality option. If you failed to dial in your settings, it was an extremely bad experience for viewers. It took me several months to get everything right but I managed to lock in settings that were very stable with my setup at the time. Sadly, my #PCMasterRace game was horrible as I was rocking the following equipment:
- CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
- GPU: XFX Radeon HD 5750
- MEMORY: 4GB of Kingston DDR2 Ram
- MONITOR: 21 ViewSonic CRT Monitor
This equipment setup was so bad that I couldnt even play and stream a game in fullscreen mode. Instead, I had to run my game in windowed mode at 1600 x 900 resolution which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Having only one monitor, the windowed mode made it so I could have chat on the right hand side and chat with my viewers (what little viewership I had). In addition to having the hardware limitation, my bandwidth was severely limited as well. I only had a 10Mbps/2Mbps connection at the time which meant the maximum I could stream at was 1,600Kbps. The very first game I started streaming was Battlefield Bad Company 2. I loved playing a map called Oasis and would play it for hours. While writing this about me section, I actually came across a video I recorded of one of my early live streams. This was recorded on July 24, 2011, which was a little under a month after I started streaming. As you can see, my initial quality was god awful. Thankfully, my streaming quality has vastly improved since then.
